Monthly hosting budgets

How hosting usage still being metered counts toward a monthly budget.

A monthly hosting budget counts hosting usage, including the part covered by your plan's credit. It also reserves room for usage that has not finished being metered. Reserved spend has not been charged. Plan fees and storage you keep still bill while hosting is paused.

Usage still being metered

Rating turns measured usage into a priced amount and runs about hourly. A reservation covers the time since the last rating, so a budget does not depend only on usage that has already been priced. The reservation is held as reserved spend and is never charged. Actual usage is charged from the metered record.

If rating data is more than about two hours old, the budget reads "unknown" and does not pause anything. An unknown reading does not mean zero spend or promise that more work fits within the budget.

What the budget counts

Included hosting credit counts toward the budget. For example, $8 of hosting covered by credit and $7 for data sent out count as $15 toward the budget. Set the budget above your plan's included hosting credit.

Plan fees and retained storage, such as disks you keep, still bill while paused. Raising or removing a budget does not change past charges. Other restrictions can still prevent hosting from resuming.
